Idaho Insects: Katydid

Meridian, IDAHO

We found this big guy doing his best to blend in on my mums this morning. The boys and I enjoyed watching him walk about. He was very large- about 2 inches long.

"Greater Angle-wing Katydid"

SCIENTIFIC NAME:
(Microcentrum rhombifolium)

  1. How wierd!! We live in Meridian too and this morning we found this exact looking Katydid on our window, he stayed there for over an hour.

    Naturally we did a little study on Katydid's today for my son's homeschool :).

    They must be "out" and about now or something??

  2. I found the same looking Katydid at my home in Meridian (Turtle Creek Subdivision) near Ustick and Linder Roads. I didn't realize these critters are in Idaho. My wife grew up in Salt Lake and says she used to see them all the time.
